The cowboy sent an email to ask me why I wanted him and us so much. Here’s how I answered.
I want you and us because you make me better. You fill in all the gaps in me, as I do in you. We are perfectly complementary. Puzzle pieces. I want you and us because with you I grow and learn. Because you are wise. Because you make my son better. Because you make my world bigger. Because with you I feel safe. Because you make me think. Because you are an actual man in a world of large boys. Because me, post-you, is way better than me before. Because you are a hardass. Because you smoke cigars and watch westerns. Because you love that filthy old barn cat even though you pretend you don’t. Because I can heal you, and you me. Because I want to grow old with you. Because you are beautiful and I love to show you off. Because you make my heart soar. Because you are a hard worker. Because you think. Because you write beautifully. Because even when you are mad at me….you still love me…and always will…just as I will always love you.
