Albuquerque actress, model and schoolteacher, Alma Sisneros. She will play Rebecca Baca in the investor film trailer for Dirty Girls Social Club.

Well, I think the message here is “ask and you shall receive.” I asked, in recent days, to be able to find the perfect actors here in New Mexico, to realize the roles of the six “sucias” in The Dirty Girls Social Club for a film trailer we will be showing to investors. Yesterday I announced that we’d cast Kiera Alexis Hidalgo in the role of Amber/Cuicatl Quintanilla.

Today, I’m proud and pleased to announce that we’ve found our Rebecca Baca! OMG! I am so excited. Friends, please join me in welcoming the beautiful and talented Alma Sisneros, an actress, model and elementary school teacher here in Albuquerque. She looks and sounds very much the way I pictured Rebecca in my mind — with the added bonus of her actually being from the same background (New Mexcian, rural, ranching) that Rebecca hails from.

As a refresher, the Rebecca character is a super disciplined magazine owner and publisher, from a wealthy family in Albuquerque (they run the King of Spain Tortilla empire). She is convinced that she is 100 percent Spanish, as in totally European. Her family is quite racist against blacks, and so when Rebecca realizes her marriage to perpetual grad student Brad (whiteboy from Michigan) is on the outs, and starts to fall in love with a gorgeous Nigerian Brit, she doesn’t quite know what to do with herself. After all: She’s Catholic, but wants a divorce; she’s “European” and racist, but loves a black man; she’s frigid and controlled, but feels herself slipping into sensual, open-minded territory….eee gads, what’s a sucia to do?

Let her hair down, that’s what. And evolve. And stand up to her family. Right? Hmm. Maybe. Maybe not.

  5. [...] I am very pleased to announce that the lovely and talented Marya Beauvais agreed, over a capuccino at Starbucks in Uptown ABQ today, to portray Sara Behar-Asis in the film trailer (and possibly the film, depending) for THE DIRTY GIRLS SOCIAL CLUB. Marya is the third official cast member to join our team, and I am absolutely thrilled. You can read about the others by clicking on their names: Kiera Alexis Hidalgo as Amber/Cuicatl, and Alma Sisneros as Rebecca. [...]
