I wish to thank everyone who has expressed interest in helping out with the investment trailer for the film adaptation of my novel THE DIRTY GIRLS SOCIAL CLUB! I’m thrilled to know how passionate my friends, readers and fans are about the fact that I’m taking the reins and doing this myself, at long last. A few days ago I posted about the roles we had yet to fill in the trailer, and got a wonderful response from many talented actors in New Mexico and beyond. (Unfortunately for those not in my area, we don’t have the budget to fly anyone in — but fortunately for us we have more than enough talented people here to do this!)

So, here’s the latest. We’ve filled a few of the roles, but still seek a couple of key positions – namely Elizabeth and Usnavys. It is proving very difficult to find afro-Latina actresses in New Mexico, where most of the Latino population is of Mexican and/or Spanish heritage, with features that range from white European to brown indigenous, but not so much African. Please, if you know anyone who fits this description and is in the area, let us know!

I am thrilled to announce that Ron Weisberg has agreed to play Roberto Behar. The character of Roberto is a Cuban Jew, a successful lawyer, very charming and wonderful to the outside world, but a wife-beater behind closed doors. I think Ron — who is a great actor, btw — captures this dynamic. He can look very sweet, but he can also flip the switch to “menacing prick” like THAT. Here, look.

I’m also excited to announce that Sasha Menendez will be portraying Juan in the trailer. Juan is our Puerto Rican community activist, in love with materialistic Unsavys, who loves him back but cannot admit it because she thinks she should be with a rich guy. Sasha is Puerto Rican and Cuban, and truly one of the nicest human beings on the planet, as well as a good actor. Here he is!

Also exciting? Sarah Ashley Minnich has agreed to play the role of JEWELRY STORE CASHIER. This person is not in the book, only the script trailer. Juan and Usnavys are shopping for rings, and Usnavys points to one she wants. The cashier looks her up and down and asks if she is sure she can afford something like that, rude. Juan shakes his head no. Usnavys smacks his arm, and grabs the cashier by the collar to set her straight… Here’s Sarah, who is actually a super sweet person but a great actress who can do bitchy.

Finally, we’ve found our SELWYN! This is awesome. Selwyn is the longtime lesbian lover of Elizabeth (whom we have yet to cast, wah). Lindsy Campbell has agreed to realize the role. She’s a beautiful woman who describes herself as a tomboy, and I think she’s perfect for the pretty yet butch Sel. See?

We’ve also got Ivan Brutsche offering to play CHUCK SPRING.

We are still searching for the following:

GATO – Mexican rock musician. Young. Cute.

GATO’S FRIEND – Hot alternative guy, emo, dorky. (Was requesting black before, but apparently there are no black people in the state of New Mexico who want to act, so…we’ll take any guy.)

ELIZABETH – Black Colombian, beautiful, late 20s to mid 40s. Closet lesbian.

UNSAVYS – Plus sized Puerto Rican mulatta with a ton of confidence and attitude (at least a size 16 please).

RACIST LADY – Any age, white woman.
